Christmas Tree - 1/27/12

Bam! Right there on the Beltline in Eugene is a mother-fucking Chrismas tree as I drive home. I know, it's the end of January, haven't these all been mulched, or recycled in some form or other (this is Eugene after all). Well apparently someone had not yet taken care of theirs yet, and it appears to have fallen out the back of their (no doubt) large, muddy, American-made-pick-up-truck. Obviously a Christmas tree, as it still sported the "X" stand formed by a couple of 1x2's (I can't be called upon to know the dimension of those boards that the salesmen nail to the bottom of trees in order to force them to stand erect, but you know the ones to which I refer...). I was seriously tempted to pull to the shoulder and watch in anticipation as someone drove into this little guy. It appeared so dried-up, I just imagine it shattering into a cloud of pine needles when struck by a vehical at 60 mph. Alas, I drove on a bit disappointed, but happy it wasn't my car that nailed the poor bastard.

Blackberry

So it's August here and the blackberry brambles are producing their delicious berries. Today on my commute, I saw a lady stopped and parked on a small shoulder. Flat tire? Engine trouble? No she had stopped, and was out of her car on the side of Interstate-5 picking goddamn blackberries. These things are delicious, and do make a fine pie, but don't you know they grow like a weed here? There is anything but a shortage of blackberries, and I'm pretty sure there's no need to slow traffic or risk harm to pick them on the side of a major freeway. I'm just saying.

Trike's!

Today I saw a bunch of trike's. Maybe it was a caravan, or perhaps it was a convoy, I'm not sure of the nomenclature when it comes to trikes. I'm talking about motorcycles with three wheels here. Most of which had a dude driving, and a chick on the back. They were just off they highway, riding parallel with us.
Brings back memories of that trike that was shaped like the Enterprise that we used to see in Ocean Beach all the time; the "Star Trike". Didn't see him in there though.

Hay!

Well and there it is, the very next day. Today a flat bed truck lost a couple bales of hay. He must have been minutes ahead of me, as some of the bales were still intact when I got there. It had mostly been broken up though by the time I had to drive through it.

Ok, maybe that's not *that* interesting, but I hadn't seen it before.

May 2010

Well I've seen some goods on my commute, and I keep thinking: I should write this shit down. God knows I drive far enough to work, and in that time on the road I listen to a *lot* of podcasts. I also see some stuff. I thought I'd keep track of it here, even though it may be little to no interest to anyone but myself. And to tell you the truth, I'm really not that interested!
So I've drove this commute for a year, here's a couple things I've seen. And from now on, I'll keep track.

--I saw a dude get a flat tire one time. It started smoking good for a while. I backed off and BAM he was pulling over to the right. But I'd seen that before, and think many people have.

--A better one was when a pickup truck zoomed by me. Seconds later, his wheel fell of. It fell the fuck off! I'm not talking the tire here. The whole wheel went rolling! and the truck, now on three wheels and one axle throwing sparks like a sparkler, was dragged over to the median. That wheel, by the way, just missed a car in the other lane and flew off into the ditch.

--The scariest thing by far that I've seen was a motherfucking extension ladder. I don't know what it was doing there, but there it was in the middle of I-5. I lucked out by not hitting it.
